Journal of Medical Regulation Completes New Research Archive
WASHINGTON, DC (March 4, 2025) – The Journal of Medical Regulation (JMR) announced that it has completed digitally archiving more than a century of back issues, creating a new research repository for scholars, policymakers and others interested in medical regulation and the history of medicine.
A quarterly, peer-reviewed publication, JMR has been published continuously since 1913 by the Federation of State Medical Boards under several titles, including Journal of Medical Regulation, Federation Bulletin and Journal of Medical Licensure and Discipline.
The journal examines trends and topics of interest to the global community of medical regulators who protect the public’s health and safety through the licensing and disciplining of physicians and other health care professionals.
“Medical regulation has a rich history that tracks closely with the history of medicine in the United States,” said JMR Editor-in-Chief Mark Bechtel, MD. “This new resource opens more than a century of material that has previously been unavailable digitally to researchers.”
All issues from 1913 to the present are now available through the JSTOR digital library at https://www.jstor.org/journal/jmediregu. Visit the Journal of Medical Regulation website at www.JMRonline.org.
About the Federation of State Medical Boards:
The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) is a national non-profit organization representing the medical boards within the United States and its territories that license and discipline allopathic and osteopathic physicians and, in some jurisdictions, other healthcare professionals. FSMB serves as the voice for state medical boards, supporting them through education, assessment, research and advocacy while providing services and initiatives that promote patient safety, quality healthcare and regulatory best practices. FSMB serves the public through Docinfo.org, a free physician search tool which provides background information on the more than 1 million doctors in the United States.
