Identity Verification
What is Identity Verification?
Identity Verification (ID Verification) is a digital identity validation process. It validates an applicant's identity to ensure that the applicant who is registering for the USMLE exam is the correct person.
To complete Identity Verification, you must pass an identity verification workflow that analyzes your government-issued ID in conjunction with a selfie check. The verification is conducted through a leading, trusted identification provider.
What type of identity document is required?
As part of the process, you will select the country from which your photo ID was issued; this will prompt a list of "accepted documents" for that country to be displayed. Most countries are supported by Identity Verification.
Accepted document types can include, but are not limited to:
- Driver’s license
- Government issued passport
- State ID Card
What is being verified on the Identity document?
Verified information includes, but is not limited to:
- The ID is not expired
- The first and last name matches the first and last name of the legal name selected on the USMLE application
- Date of birth
- The MRZs (machine readable zones), such as barcode, decode to information that is consistent with the rest of the ID
- There is no evidence of font tampering, letter spacing, holes or other defects in the ID
System Requirements:
All operating systems are compatible with ID Verification, but we have found that Google Chrome is the most effective for this process.
